Why the VW Bug is the greatest car of all time . . .

. . . because it is the car my Dad drove all the years that I was growing up.  I remember the day he brought it home.  I was 3 years old and my Mom told me that Dad was bringing home a surprise that day.  I watched out the window of the house until he came home, and the surprise was a used 1967 VW Bug, dark green (very similar to the one in the photograph above).

A few years later, that was the car he used to teach me to drive.  It had over 260,000 miles on it by the time I was in high school.  The first car I bought was, of course, a used VW Bug as well (1969).

Happy Birthday Dad!  Thanks for all the things you taught me (and continue to teach me).
